Travelling to Mull by Road                                                                                                         Back to Top

The shortest route for those coming by car from the south is either by the M6/A74/M8/A82 to Crianlarich and Oban, or via Stirling and Callander to Crianlarich if travelling from the east coast. Whether you reach Oban by road or rail, the next stage is to take the car ferry to Craignure.

Alternatively, coming by way of Glencoe, Ballachulish Bridge and Corran Ferry, you can use the Lochaline - Fishnish car ferry: since this cannot be booked, at busy times you should not travel too late in the day. Timetables and other information can be obtained from Caledonian MacBrayne (Oban), Telephone 01631 562285. If you plan to take your car onto the Oban - Craignure ferry you should book both ways during the summer.

Which ever route you take towards Scotland's beautiful west coast you will pass through some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain. You will need to check with your accommodation provider, what time they will expect you to arrive so that you can make the necessary Ferry booking to suite.

If you are travelling from Oban to Craignure for your holiday on Mull, you should turn right off the ferry linkspan and head towards Salen and Tobermory. If you are travelling on the Lochaline to Fishnish ferry you should travel up the ferry road to the T junction and then make a right turn towards Salen and Tobermory.

Having turned right you will eventually arrive at a village named Salen travel straight through the village towards Tobermory and in about half a mile you will be travelling alongside the river inlet with the water on your right. After about 500 mtrs the road goes sharp right over a bridge towards Tobermory and there is another road that goes straight on.

You should follow the road that goes straight on at the bridge. This is signposted for Dervaig. This road is eleven miles long and as you come to the far end of it you will see a track on your right signposted for Mull Little Theatre. Carry on past this for about 500 meters and you will come to the T junction.  Turn right for Dervaig Village or left for Calgary or Torloisk.
